That decision to breach what he promised has significantly weakened Gibraltar and put us in a really poor position when confronting the dual
challenge of navigating the post-BREXIT challenge and the COVID financial impact.

And we do not know how much of the hundreds of millions in off-book borrowing have been spent, on what precisely and what money is left. There is around £1 BILLION pounds in off-book borrowing!

The reality is that if they had not mismanaged the public finances, broken their debt promises to you and increased debt in the way they have Gibraltar would have been able to sustain the post-COVID economic crisis better.

MR PICARDO’S LOWER TAX PROMISE – ALSO BROKEN
As usual to get or retain power Mr Picardo will say anything to you. He cannot be believed. Of course, he has been unable to carry out those promises partly because they were unrealistic and partly because of the reckless management of our public finances. But these were clear promises made to you when he was seeking election in 2011. It also shows what the GSLP/Libs have been prepared to say to be elected.
WE NEED TO STOP THE ABUSE, WASTE AND CORRUPTION
New systems need to be put in place to control abuses, properly monitor contracts and ensure there is no waste of public money
In 2011 the GSLP/Libs had a manifesto commitment to establish an Anti-Corruption Authority. Nothing came of it for 11 years. In January 2023 after 11 years of sitting on their promise to you they finally introduced an Anti-Corruption Authority Act. But that law was too little, too late. It was a half measure because it did not deal with conflicts of interests, cronyism or trafficking of influences.

It cannot be that the wider population is being asked to tighten their belt because of the public finances and economic crisis but those close
to Government and their special interests keep benefitting regardless of the crisis that affects us all.

THEY CANNOT BE BELIEVED ANYMORE
There is a crisis of truth with this Government. It now cannot be believed on almost anything. The fact that the chant of “No More Lies” has become associated with this Government and Mr Picardo in particular is not an accident or an invention of the GSD.
This has been the grassroots reaction of people who have felt lied to or have seen at close-hand the spin, half-truths and downright lies that the GSLP/Liberals have used in so many areas to avoid compromising positions. Mr Picardo’s administration has used its media machine in an overdrive of twist and spin.
NO MORE LIES
A CRISIS OF DEMOCRACY
There is a crisis of democracy in our Gibraltar where people are now concerned about expressing their views and where the Government tries to squash any dissent or any criticisms using taxpayers’ monies to fund expensive legal action against citizens.
There is no equality in that fight when the State uses your resources to fight and squash you. It’s happened to ordinary workers just expressing a view on social media and it even happened to the head of clinical governance of the GHA – Professor Burke when he dared to say that there were patients at risk of harm or worse because of failures in the GHA. In both cases these were instances where Mr Picardo stifled criticism with the use of your money just to save himself.
A GOVERNMENT WITHOUT ANY DIRECTION
There is no sense of where the Government is going because despite its media spin it has no real plan. For years it has used the media to give an impression of strategy when the opposite is true. The smoke and mirrors are now unconvincing and cannot be believed.
This is a Government that is directionless.

Mr Picardo says that this election is about Keeping Gibraltar Safe. That is stunning from a person that has taken us to the financial brink, who quadrupled debt instead of halving it like he promised and has hidden away hundreds of millions of pounds in opaque structures. How has that made Gibraltar safe? Gibraltar has never been in a worse financial position. Re-electing Mr Picardo means Gibraltar will remain perilously unsafe. He cannot be trusted with your future.
